Love the Doll; Hate the hair extensions- I have yet to hear of anyone who likes the hair extensions. There is not just one reason either. Here is a list of reasons that I see come up most frequently:
1. Doesn't stay in.
2. Different blond coloring than Isabelle's hair.
3. Only fits on Isabelle
4. Tacky for the age.
5. You can't see it.
6. When you move it so you can see it, it sticks out of the hair like a soar thumb.
I would think that AG would have thought about these hair extensions a bit more before putting them up for sale. It is disappointing that Isabelle's most "unique" feature doesn't look or work well with her and it increases her price by $10.00. From what I have heard from buyers so far, I would not buy this doll unless they change the hair piece.
All you have to do is read some of the reviews posted on the American Girl site to see that I am not the only one that is noticing a problem with the extensions.

ReplyDeleteI think they should've just had a 3-pack of magenta hair clips (like the Bright Highlights set) to go with Isabelle. A couple of my dolls have had hair clips for a few years and I like them. If you get them in right, they blend in nicely with the regular hair.
ReplyDeleteI think the color is too much. I know she's supposed to be "artistic" or whatever, but let's not forget she's 10 years old.

ReplyDeleteWe got our Isabelle on January 1st and after coming home we immediately put her hairpiece in. It took a short 5 minutes for it to promptly fall out. After replacing the hairpiece we began styling her hair. I was sourly disappointed that almost every style we tried either showed the netting the hairpiece was sewn onto (yuck!) or the hairpiece kept falling out. I immediately packed the hairpiece away. Just last week I noticed a few strands of Isabelle's hair were longer than the rest of the length of her hair. I used my fingers to lightly brush them and a section of her hair simply came out! It was about 1/2" wide strip of hair still sewn together but fell completely off the wig. I called AG customer service (BEST of ANY SERVICE!!) and they sent us a new Isabelle. I was OVERJOYED to see they had changed the loops on Isabelle's head, I could see immediately that it was a better design. Smaller loops and the ones on the end are at an angle to help prevent slippage. Next we unpacked the hairpiece and once again I was OVERJOYED to see that they had also improved the hairpiece! It was no longer this bulky rectangular strip of hanging hair; this piece was lighter and had a much more effective shape for a hairpiece. Kind of like a crescent shape. The difference in these changes have improved our play value with Isabelle. So proud of AG listening to their customers, it shows that they value our opinion and truly want the best experience possible for their customers!
ReplyDeleteHey Tara, We agree that the hairpiece is a flop. We had first hand knowledge of that back in November 2013. We had a terrible time getting it to show up in photos. Having said that, we didn't want to say anything negative about Izzy at the time cause she is such a pretty girl! I am very interested to hear what Danielle Thomas said above. Our Izzy's hair has not fallen out but the straight/blunt design of the hair piece had us put it back in the box where it still resides. Maybe if we contact AG we can get a new one that is better suited to Izzy's head. Thanks for the tip! ~D3 Girls♥
